Substance Abuse Treatment at Rosecrance

When a person struggles to get through a day without drugs or alcohol, he/she must acknowledge the problem and get treatment. Self-restraint and abstinence won’t work for most people who’ve fallen deep into cycles of substance abuse.

Getting Started: Self Assessment

Rosecrance has new patients take a self-assessment where they examine their addiction and its effects on others. This assessment helps Rosecrance counselors gain insight into the issues of each person that comes for treatment. The assessment covers the basics, such as:

  • What are your addiction struggles? – It’s difficult for a lot of addicts to face their problems or open up to others about their struggles. The first step toward recovery is honesty. What kind of drugs does the patient use, and how often? Does he/she think about drugs all the time? Has it become impossible to face any task or challenge without reaching for alcohol, stimulants, or opioids?
  • How does addiction affect you? – Rosecrance wants patients to honestly face how drugs and/or alcohol have impacted their quality of life. How has job performance been affected? Has this person suffered a drop in productivity? Has addiction led to fights or legal trouble? Has he/she lost friends over drugs or alcohol?
  • How has your addiction affected others? – Most people don’t recognize the effects of drugs on those around them until the problem spirals out of hand. Even then, they might still be in denial. Rosecrance wants patients to face the music. Have friends and loved ones been hurt, alienated, betrayed, or possibly endangered by the person’s addiction?

For anyone serious about sobriety, it’s crucial to gain self-awareness. Rosecrance welcomes each new patient into a supportive, non-judgmental environment where people gain the confidence to open up and grow as individuals.

Teen Recovery Services

Young people face intense pressure as they go through the awkward passage from childhood to adulthood. Some teens turn to drugs to cope with insecurity and the pressures of school and peers. Rosecrance offers an environment where teens can open up about their struggles and get the help they need with the following programs:

  • Detoxification – Sobriety starts with detox, which begins the moment a person stops using drugs and alcohol. At first, he/she might feel committed. However, cravings often overwhelm the individual on days two and three. Rosecrance supervises patients during this challenging yet crucial part of recovery.
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – To overcome drugs or alcohol, some teens need all-day care seven days per week. In the Rosecrance PHP program, teens come to the center every Monday-Sunday for counseling, activities, and education. Teens go home in the evening to spend the night with their families.
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) – Teens with less severe problems may opt for IOP, consisting of fewer weekly hours. The teen comes in for counseling in group and individual settings. IOP also covers life-skill topics, such as healthy ways to cope with stress, depression, and challenges. Teens who’ve been through PHP may graduate to IOP.
  • Recovery Homes – Teens who need long-term care may enter the Rosecrance recovery homes program. This provides living space for teens who need structure and supervision in their lives as they grow into sober adults. Recovery homes are also ideal for teens who come from broken homes with drug-addicted parents.

Rosecrance is committed to helping teens overcome drug and alcohol addiction. All young people deserve to live long and fruitful lives. For teens with substance use problems, Rosecrance treatment programs offer guidance, support, clarity, and focus.

Adult Recovery Services

Rosecrance offers treatment designed for the unique needs of adults. Whereas most teens live at home with their families, adults often have to fend for themselves for detox and recovery. At Rosecrance, adult men and women can get supervised detox, PHP, IOP, and recovery housing, as well as the following programs:

  • Residential Inpatient Care – After detox, many adult patients enter Rosecrance’s inpatient program, staying at the center for a set length of time. Inpatient care gives each patient access to nursing attention 24/7. The program consists of therapy, group meetings, education, and activities.
  • Recreational Therapy – As patients heal from drug and alcohol use, activities such as health and fitness can help them on their journey. A patient can discover a new passion through outdoor activities and therapy involving animals, medication, or yoga. Recreational therapy provides a healthy way to fill the day.
  • Art Therapy – Through art, recovering drug and alcohol users find new ways to occupy their minds and fill each day. Activities like painting and drawing engage the thought process in positive ways. Art projects give people a sense of accomplishment. This helps reverse the addiction mindset, where the mind wanders in negative ways and days become interchangeable.
  • Family Programming – Rosecrance counselors help each client bridge communication gaps with loved ones. In recovery, each family member must work as a team. Addiction often alienates close relatives and partners. In family counseling sessions, parents, siblings, and children learn to communicate and support their recovering loved ones as they reenter society.

Rosecrance addiction specialists use evidence-based practices that give patients the necessary tools to beat addiction. When adults come to an on-site Rosecrance location for detox, residential treatment, and outpatient services, they gain the strength, coping skills, and a sense of purpose needed for a life free of drugs.

Gender-Specific Treatment

People fall into addictive patterns for different reasons. Busy, overworked individuals often use drugs to cope with stress. People in crime-addled neighborhoods often fall prey to addiction to cope with the poor quality of life. Depressed people resort to alcohol and drugs to make the pain go away. Addiction often differs along gender lines:

  • Men’s Treatment – For men, addictive behavior is often fueled by stress. Men who work long hours and frequently travel sometimes resort to uppers like cocaine and speed to cope with hectic schedules. Some men get depressed over financial trouble or bad breakups and use alcohol or downers to cope. Rosecrance counselors help male clients deal with the issues that drive substance abuse.
  • Women’s Treatment – Women often fall into substance abuse for emotional reasons, such as depression, anxiety, and insecurity. A woman with body issues might resort to opioids to ease her insecurity, mainly if she’s constantly worried about what others think of her. Women also use drugs for the same reasons as men, such as financial stress and performance anxiety.

At Rosecrance’s Harrison Campus, they offer programs designed for men and women. A big part of recovery is about healthy socialization with group therapy between the genders. However, many people (especially women) relate better on a life-experiences level with people of the same sex.

Additional Services

Rosecrance offers special treatment services for people with unique needs. For people in the professional or public safety sectors, Rosecrance offers discreet help to open up about without fear of repercussions.

  • Uniformed Services Personnel – People in the armed services and law enforcement face unique challenges that are often stress-inducing. Some returning service people resort to drugs to cope with PTSD after witnessing the horrors of combat. Police and firefighters cope with similar demons in their line of work.
  • Dual-Diagnosis TreatmentSuccessful treatment helps each patient on two levels: the physical cravings for drugs and alcohol and the underlying psychological issues that feed into addictive behavior. Dual-diagnosis therapy helps counselors identify the latter component in each patient.
  • InterventionsSome people go into deep denial when they have a drug or alcohol problem. Friends and loved ones are often afraid to confront the person or intervene. Rosecrance addiction specialists have years of experience in handling interventions in various crisis settings.
  • Virtual SupportSome people can’t always get to Rosecrance when they need help. Thankfully, Rosecrance offers virtual assistance where patients at home can have facetime with an appointed Rosecrance counselor. This is especially useful for older folks with transportation difficulties.

The Rosecrance team has helped people in all conceivable life situations beat drugs and alcohol.
